Payton Royce
PAYTON ROYCE is a professional actor (SAG) and filmmaker who has a true passion for authentic storytelling. This love inspired him to create Royce House Productions to support him producing films that represent LGBTQIA+ lives. Royce received his Associate of Applied Science degree in video technology from North Lake College, and immediately began to create content that shares transgender-themed stories. To ensure a home for this important work he created RNTVPRIDE.com, a streaming distribution platform dedicated to showcasing LGBTQIA+ content. If Royce looks familiar, it may be because you recognize him from the Emmy Award winning POSE; the motion picture Honk for Jesus; or his autobiographical visual journal, WHO AM I BECOMING. Payton is also an amateur bodybuilder and certified personal trainer. But more important to him than training his body is exercising his voice to speak his truth, and support others in celebrating their true selves.
FILMMAKER Q&A
As someone who exercises both body and voice, how do you use your platform to amplify the voices of others within the LGBTQIA+ community, especially those whose stories are often overlooked?
I exercise my platform in many ways. For example on my social media Tik Tok Is used to promote visibility, inspire the minds of people in my community. With intentions to inspire and motivate others to live a healthy life and let others know that it's okay to display confidence. I use my voice to speak for those who can't and are afraid to speak about the transgender community.
Can you share a little bit about RNTVPRIDE.com, your unique streaming platform?
RNTV Pride was also developed to promote more visibility on a different level. It's more for indie filmmakers in the community who are truly passionate about sharing their stories and talents with the world, while at the same time possibly monetizing, creating a residual income for themselves.
Your autobiographical visual journal, "WHO AM I BECOMING," is an extremely personal exploration. How did the process of creating this project influence your approach to storytelling in your other works?
“WHO AM I BECOMING” gave me a better understanding of how projects can be created from just acting on your visions. How something can start so small and land on the other side of the globe. Working on my documentary I realized how patients, timing and relationships with others are key. Just start, you may not see the full picture yet but if you just get started and persevere things will get going.
Spring and Summer are around the corner. Do you have any tips for those getting back into the gym? We need reps!
Summer is coming up. I would say get started on that summer body right now. Start cutting back on unhealthy carbs and fats. Get a gym membership. USE IT. Lol and try to get started at least 3 days a week on the body parts that you want to see improvement in. Once you make it to the gym go ahead and add Muscle Music to your playlist!
Having worked on projects like “POSE” and "Honk for Jesus," when can we expect to see you on screen?
I've worked on a few small projects before the strike. Hopefully one of them will create momentum and do big things. Outside of that, I'm working on writing and producing more films. I've been focusing a little bit more on building RNTV Pride and building my team.
